I started a new blog for more professional purposes. It will focus more on design/personal posts from me and will eventually link to my website (once that finally exists): http://hughesar.tumblr.com/

Long live The Beach Boys.
Back when the performers could just stand and sing and make people happy.
breathing fire = sexual?
The past week at work I have been working on a series of posters for a campus organization. The posters were to advertise a drag show happening in a few weeks and the posters showcased the performers. The performers were men dressed in drag to look like women. After spending a good amount of time and their money on these posters, 2 of the 3 posters I worked on were no longer approved to be used by the Chancellor. The fourth almost wasn’t approved but the organization fought enough to keep it.
What was wrong with these posters? Well, one had a performer licking a disco ball. Okay, that’s obviously sexual. The second had the performer sitting on a big disco ball in a somewhat sexual pose. Kind of inappropriate. But for a college campus? No. The other one that almost wasn’t approved had the performer breathing fire out of her mouth. That isn’t sexual at all. It doesn’t imply anything besides that the performer is breathing fire… which is kind of a turn off. I don’t want to be with someone that breathes fire.
So, what does this tell me and why and am I writing about this? There is a poster currently hanging in the halls, which I believe the same organization put up, that has “SEX” in large letters across the top and has a girl sitting on a guy’s lap with her legs over his shoulders. How is THAT not inappropriate if these other posters are?
I don’t care what the Chancellor’s personal opinions are because when you’re the Chancellor of a liberal arts university you need to be accepting of all students along with whatever their lifestyle might be.
